Should you have your property surveyed?

A property survey focuses on the legal description of the home. This includes boundary lines and any improvements that have been or will be added to the property. It is very valuable in most cases.

When selling your home, it is not necessary for you to get a survey done for the buyer. Aside from the buyer you as a seller should have one on record to prove the property is described correctly. It is recommended for a buyer to obtain their own and if it’s a new construction property. As a buyer you will want to have that information if you plan to modify the land. Whether it is a pool, fence, or expanding the physical home itself. It also protects your property rights. You do not want to build on someone else’s side or vice versa they cross your lines with new improvements. The recommended option would be to have your house surveyed at the beginning of the sale or purchase.
