How do you get a homestead tax exemption?

Homestead Tax Exemption in South Carolina is an exemption of taxes on the first $50,000 in Fair Market Value of your legal property for homeowners only.

To be eligible for a homestead tax exemption one of the following below must apply to you.

  • If you are 65 years or older
  • Legally blind
  • Permanently and totally disabled 
  • Married to someone who was qualified when they passed away

You must also currently be or were a legal resident of South Carolina for one year of prior/and or preceding year. Requirements vary from state to state.
